MaxPreps Girls Soccer playoff update

The postseason has arrived in some parts of the country. Here's where each state stands.

Playoffs come at much different times for teams depending on their states. This is a look at when state playoffs begin for each state that participates in spring girls soccer.

ALABAMA (See brackets)
The schedule has been delayed in Alabama, most likely due to the intense weather.
  • The second round of the 6A playoffs will be played Friday, May 6. Sixteen teams remain in 6A.
  • There are eight teams left in the 5A and 4A-1A classes and the quarterfinals are Saturday, May 7.

ALASKA
The state playoffs in Anchorage begin Thursday, May 26 in Alaska.

ARKANSAS

Finals for all classes will be Friday, May 20 at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. First-round games are Friday, May 13. Second-round games are Saturday, May 14, with semifinals on Monday, May 16.
  • 7A: Play begins Friday, May 13 at North Little Rock. Top-two seeds get byes in the first round.
  • 6A: Play begins Friday, May 13 at El Dorado. Top-two seeds get byes in the first round.
  • 5A: Play begins Friday, May 13 at Harrison.
  • 4A: Play begins Friday, May 13 at Valley View (Jonesboro).

CALIFORNIA
California does not have a state title. Soccer is up to each individual section, so some play winter soccer instead of spring and some sections crown winter and spring champions. A section title is the most a team can achieve in California.
  • San Francisco Section: It's Lincoln (San Francisco) vs. Lowell (San Francisco) in the title match, which is Saturday at 1 p.m. at Boxer Stadium in Balboa Park. Lincoln beat Mission 3-0 in the semis and Lowell bested O'Connell 4-0. Lowell blasted Lincoln 7-0 earlier this year in the teams' only meeting.
  • Sac-Joaquin Section: The playoffs start Tuesday for Division I and Thursday for all other divisions (II through VII). Title matches will be May 21, a Saturday. (Brackets)
  • Northern Section: The regular season ends on Friday May 13. Playoffs will begin afterwards. There are no divisions for Northern Section spring girls soccer, as only one league (the Eastern Athletic League) does spring soccer.
  • North Coast Section: The playoffs will begin on Wednesday, May 18.

COLORADO
Playoffs in Colorado begin at home sites and each division has 32 teams. Neutral sites host the semifinals and finals. Brackets have not been announced yet.
  • 5A: Play begins Tuesday, May 10. The round of 16 is Friday, May 13. Quarterfinals are Wednesday, May 18. The semifinals are Saturday, May 21 and will be at Englewood. The finals are Wednesday, May 25 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City at 7:30 p.m.
  • 4A: Play begins Wednesday, May 11. The round of 16 is Saturday, May 14. Quarterfinals are Tuesday, May 17. The semifinals are Saturday, May 21 and will be at Englewood. The finals are Wednesday, May 25 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City at 5 p.m.
  • 3A: Play begins Wednesday, May 11. The round of 16 is Saturday, May 14. Quarterfinals are Thursday, May 19. The semifinals are Saturday, May 21 and will be at All City Stadium in Denver. The finals are Wednesday, May 25 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park at 5 p.m.

DELAWARE
Playoffs have not begun yet in Delaware.

GEORGIA (See brackets)
Georgia has reached the quarterfinals in all classes. Semifinals are Tuesday, May 10 and the finals are Friday, May 13.
ILLINOIS (See brackets)
Illinois has massive soccer brackets. The playoff pairings are set, and play begins next week in each classification. The state finals are nearly a month away.
  • 3A: The sectional brackets are in Joliet, Chicago, Algonquin, St. Charles, Elmhurst, Aurora, Glenview and Evanston. First-round matches are Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14. All sectionals have 20 teams, except for Chicago, which has 21.
  • 2A: The sectional brackets are in Belleville (16 teams), Champaign (17), Geneseo (16), Burlington (17), Riverside (17), New Lenox (17), Lake Villa (16) and West Chicago (17). The small number of outbracket games are on Friday, may 13, and Saturday, May 14.
  • 1A: The sectional brackets are in Urbaana (25 teams), Edwardsville (23), Hinckley (23) and Palos Heights (24). First-round games begin Tuesday, May 10, and Wednesday, May 11.

IOWA
This state tournament in Iowa does not start until June.



KANSAS
Regional competition in Kansas starts on Monday, May 16. The finals are Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28.

MICHIGAN
The district tournaments in Michigan commence on May 31.

MISSOURI
The state championship tournament begins on May 24 with region champs battling it out.

NEBRASKA
  • CLASS A: The first games are Thursday, May 12. Semifinals are Saturday, May 14 and the finals at Creighton University are at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17.
  • CLASS B: The first games are Friday, May 13. Semifinals are Saturday, May 14 and the finals at Creighton University are at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17.

NORTH CAROLINA
The first rounds of the state tournament begin on Wednesday, May 11. Championships are may 27-28.

NORTH DAKOTA
The state tournament is June 2-4 (Thursday through Saturday).

OKLAHOMA (See brackets)
A state champ will be crowned soon in Oklahoma.

PENNSYLVANIA
The first round of state playoffs is June 1.



SOUTH CAROLINA (See brackets)
Thirty-two teams are placed into the AAAA, AAA and AA brackets, half from the upper state and half from the lower state. The first games are Monday, May 9.

VIRGINIA
The postseason is far away for teams in Virginia.

WISCONSIN
Regionals start June 2 in Wisconsin. Sectionals begin June 9. Championship games are June 18.

WYOMING
Regionals begin on Thursday, May 12 in Wyoming.
