Soccer Game Preview: Santa Maria vs. Cabrillo

The Santa Maria Saints will take on the Cabrillo Conquistadores at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Maria's defense has only allowed 0.5 goals per game this season, so Cabrillo's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Santa Maria is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Lompoc just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Braves. The Saints were red-hot offensively headed into the matchup (they scored no less than four goals in the three contests prior) but the Braves' defense proved too tough.

Cabrillo got their first taste of in-conference action this week and they started things off strong. They won by a goal and slipped past Santa Ynez 3-2. The score was all tied up 1-1 at the break, but the Conquistadores were the better team in the second half.

Cabrillo now has a winning record of 9-8-2. As for Santa Maria, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 17-2-2.

Santa Maria beat Cabrillo 2-0 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Does Santa Maria have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cabrillo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
