Football Game Preview: Halifax Academy Knights vs. Baker County Wildcats

The Halifax Academy Knights are taking a road trip to face off against the Baker County Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Halifax Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Baker County will be coming in after a defeat.

Halifax Academy will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Taylor, who they had gone 1-7 against in their eight prior meetings. The Knights strolled past the Wildcats with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 20-6. The Knights' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Marcus Brown Jr had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 257 yards and three TDs on only 14 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 56 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Brown Jr was just one part of a punishing run game: Halifax Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 340 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

Halifax Academy's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jeff Gamble, Damiyse Baker, and Emanuel Washington, who each picked up one sack apiece. Halifax Academy received some extra help from Milton Cross, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Baker County took on Godby on Friday. The Wildcats took a 17-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. Having soared to a lofty 51 points in the game before, the Wildcats couldn't push the score so high this time.

Baker County dropped their record down to 2-4 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Halifax Academy, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
