Preview: Kennedy Thunderbirds vs. McFarland Cougars

Kennedy is 1-9 against the Cougars since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Kennedy Thunderbirds will head out on the road to face off against the McFarland Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Kennedy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.

Last Saturday, things could have been worse for Kennedy, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 46-29 loss to the Blades. Kennedy was down 39-15 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Valeria Payan-Medina, who scored four points along with ten rebounds and five blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Imaree Curry, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.

Meanwhile, McFarland's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 75-29 loss at the hands of Shafter. While losing is never fun, McFarland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1019th, while the Generals are ranked 235th).

Kennedy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season. As for McFarland, their loss dropped their record down to 5-19.

Kennedy strolled past the Cougars when the teams last played on January 12th by a score of 53-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kennedy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
