Recap: Pittsburg Pirates vs. Heritage Patriots

The Pittsburg Pirates suffered their biggest loss since November 18, 2023 on Tuesday. They were beaten by Heritage 61-26. Pittsburg was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-16.

When it comes to explaining why Pittsburg lost, one person who can't be blamed is Malia Fonologoua. Despite the final result, she scored five points along with three blocks and two steals.

Heritage was led to victory by Kendall Mcclure and Ze'ni Patterson. Mcclure scored 11 points, while Patterson scored 13 points along with two steals. Patterson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Abby Livermore was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Pittsburg's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-11. As for Heritage, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Pittsburg will be playing in front of their home fans against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Liberty focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday. Heritage on the road again on Friday and play against Freedom at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Freedom will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 484th, while Heritage is ranked 133rd).
