Softball Recap: Platte County Takes a Loss

Platte County extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 3-6. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kearney Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pirates of the 7-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

As for Kearney, their win was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.4 runs this season.

For Kearney's part, Kate Landewee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. Landewee has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Brooke Paalhar was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Quick, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Looking ahead, Platte County will host North Platte at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Kearney does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
