Preview: North Star Cougars vs. Somerset Eagles
North Star and Somerset are an even 3-3 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The North Star Cougars will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Somerset Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
North Star unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a serious blow against Windber, falling 55-21. While losing is never fun, North Star can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 429th, while Windber is ranked 178th).
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Somerset, who are still winless after their seventh matchup. They had to suffer through a rough 67-27 loss at the hands of Westmont Hilltop.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Reagan Holmes, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Eve Housley, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
North Star's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Somerset, their defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 0-7.
North Star was dealt a bruising 59-24 defeat at the hands of Somerset in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Can North Star avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
