Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Harker

Harker saw some tournament action on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 56-53 win over the Coronado Cougars. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Eagles' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 94th in California, while the Cougars are ranked 11th in Nevada).

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Scarlet Lopez, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 boards. Those 13 boards gave Lopez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jayliana Glothon, who posted 13 points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

The win made it two in a row for Harker and bumps their season record up to 9-1. As for Coronado, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.

Harker wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 60-24 victory against Ann Sobrato on the 4th. As for Coronado, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-49 loss against Orange Lutheran on the 4th.
