Football Recap: Murfreesboro Comes Up Short

Murfreesboro dropped down to 5-3 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They were dealt a 59-6 loss at the hands of the Junction City Dragons. The Rattlers were red-hot offensively heading into the game (they scored no less than 31 points in the three matchups prior), but the Dragons' defense proved too tough.

Kooper Caldwell threw for 121 yards and one touchdown. Kale Burns was his top target, picking up 75 receiving yards. On the ground, Alex Parker rushed for 28 yards.

As for Junction City, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.9 points over those games.

Junction City's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jermaine Kennedy, who rushed for 50 yards and one TD, and also caught one score. Kennedy also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making four total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Brennan Lee was another key player, rushing for 87 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Murfreesboro didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 20-14 defeat against Spring Hill on the 31st. As for Junction City, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 64-6 win against Lafayette County on the 31st.
