Basketball Game Preview: Gertz-Ressler Pumas vs. Marquez Gladiators

The Gertz-Ressler Pumas will take on the Marquez Gladiators at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Gertz-Ressler's defense has only allowed 23 points per game this season, so Marquez's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Marquez is hoping to do what Elizabeth couldn't on Monday: put an end to Gertz-Ressler's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Gertz-Ressler walked away with a 23-15 win over Elizabeth. That's two games straight that the Pumas have won by exactly eight points.

Gertz-Ressler's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elizabeth Ortega led the charge by putting up six points along with six boards and three steals. Bernadett Olivares was another key player, posting four points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals.

Meanwhile, Marquez came up short against Marshall on Wednesday and fell 42-32. The Gladiators have struggled against the Barristers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Gertz-Ressler will have to contain Corshell Vaughn as she made an impact in Marquez's last game. She dropped a double-double on 12 points and 27 boards. Vaughn is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 12 or more in the last 21 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Magaly Gonzalez, who posted eight points along with seven steals and five boards.

Gertz-Ressler's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Marquez, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
