Basketball Recap: Grant Lancers vs. Arleta Mustangs
The Grant Lancers lost against the Arleta Mustangs back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Grant was beaten by the Mustangs 62-12. Grant was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-9.
Arleta's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaliyah Serpas, who scored 24 points along with six steals. Serpas has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 21 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aakira Smith, who scored 13 points along with eight steals and two blocks.
Grant's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-14. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.7 points per game. As for Arleta, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-10.
Grant will head out on the road to take on the Pythons at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Panorama focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Wednesday. As for Arleta, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Chavez has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 0-3 during that stretch of close contests.
