Basketball Recap: Alana Burnett's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Vista Murrieta over Rancho Cucamonga

Vista Murrieta lost against Rancho Cucamonga back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Vista Murrieta Broncos lost 58-35 to the Rancho Cucamonga Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Broncos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 401st, while the Cougars are ranked 31st).

Vista Murrieta's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alana Burnett, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Shajade Banks, who posted eight points and four steals.

Vista Murrieta's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Rancho Cucamonga, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-2.

Vista Murrieta wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-47 victory against Temecula Valley on the 28th. As for Rancho Cucamonga, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-39 win against San Jacinto on the 28th.
