Central City dropped down to 16-3 on Thursday, ending the team's ten-game streak of wins. They fell 5-2 to the Douglas County West Falcon. The Bison were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the five games prior), but the Falcon's pitcher proved too tough.
Payton Burbach put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Addie Burbach was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
As for Douglas County West, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.
On Douglas County West's side, Lillee Zach spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits.
At the plate, Douglas County West saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton White, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Coincidentally, Central City and Douglas County West will both be playing Bishop Neumann the next time they take the field. The Bison will host the Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Falcon will play them later in the day, at 8:00 p.m.
