Softball Recap: Laurel Christian Wins Going Away Against Simpson Academy

After only one run in their last contest, Laurel Christian made sure to put some runs up on the board against Simpson Academy on Tuesday. The Lions put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 10-2 victory. Considering the Lions' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Leyla Rigby made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in August of 2024.

In other batting news, Emma Risher was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Horn, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Laurel Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Laurel Christian's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Simpson Academy, they moved to 12-2 with that defeat, which also ended their ten-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Laurel Christian will head out to square off against Centreville Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Simpson Academy will be paying especially close attention to the Lions' game: after the Lions face off against Lamar Christian, they'll take on Simpson Academy again at 6:15 p.m. on September 18.
