Soccer Game Preview: South San Francisco vs. San Mateo

The South San Francisco Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the San Mateo Bearcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. San Mateo took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on South San Francisco, who comes in off a win.

South San Francisco will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one goal on Thursday, then bounced right back against Capuchino on Tuesday. South San Francisco's defense stepped up to hand Capuchino an 8-0 shutout. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Warriors' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for San Mateo's offense. They came up short against Carlmont on Tuesday, falling 4-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Bearcats haven't been shut out since back in November of 2024.

South San Francisco's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3-1 and their overall record up to 5-7-2. As for San Mateo, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-2-1.

South San Francisco suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to San Mateo when the teams last played on January 14th. Can South San Francisco avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
