Basketball Recap: Monday's Win Is Prospect's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

Prospect won the last time they faced Leland and things went their way on Monday too. The Prospect Panthers walked away with a 53-40 victory over the Leland Chargers. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 191st, while the Chargers are ranked 813th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Prospect had a senior duo take command as Sadie Slaughter dropped a double-double with 30 points and 15 rebounds and Anbrielle Joan Mangoba dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten assists. That makes it six consecutive games in which Slaughter has scored at least a third of Prospect's points. Madison Kumagai was another key player, putting up four points.

Prospect was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Leland's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Stephanie Lu, who posted nine points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Lu a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Zeynep Tepegoz, who scored seven points along with seven boards and five blocks.

Prospect has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points over those games. As for Leland, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-18.

Prospect didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 35-34 win against Willow Glen on the 18th. As for Leland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 61-48 defeat against Christopher on the 18th.
