Baseball Recap: Normandy Triumphs

While Normandy's win against Elyria wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Invaders won by a run and slipped past the Pioneers 16-15. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Invaders have posted since May 16, 2025.

Cullen Rooney was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Normandy is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 5-10 otherwise. Rooney was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Nick Hinkle was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Normandy is undefeated when Hinkle posts two or more runs, but 6-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Lucas, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Normandy and bumps their season record up to 9-10. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Elyria, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-18.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Normandy will welcome Olmsted Falls at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Elyria, they will be playing at home against Oberlin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Phoenix have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.29 runs per game on average), something the Pioneers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
