Baseball Recap: St. Anne-Pacelli's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

After a string of four wins, St. Anne-Pacelli's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 10-5 to First Presbyterian Day. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against First Presbyterian Day this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 back in February.

St. Anne-Pacelli got a good showing from Billy Smith, who pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Smith has become a key player for St. Anne-Pacelli: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 9-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Connor Zittrauer made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run.

St. Anne-Pacelli now has a losing record of 11-12. As for First Presbyterian Day, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Anne-Pacelli will head out to take on Calvary Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for First Presbyterian Day, they will venture away from home to face off against Piedmont Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 2.4, the Cougars 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
