Preview: Loyalton Grizzlies vs. Chester Volcanoes
Loyalton has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Chester Volcanoes at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Loyalton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Chester likes a good challenge.
Loyalton put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Wednesday. They blew past Plumas Charter 68-35 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Loyalton has posted since December 5, 2023.
Loyalton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sophie Holland, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Holland has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Catherine Petterson, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Meanwhile, Chester's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 32-23 to Redding Christian.
Loyalton's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Chester, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
Loyalton took their victory against Chester in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 48-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for Loyalton since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
