Basketball Recap: Center Cougars vs. St. Francis Troubadours
Center was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a blow against the St. Francis Troubadours, falling 61-21. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1094th, while the Troubadours are ranked 206th).
Center's loss came despite strong showings from Reniaya Applin and Jamie Schader. Applin posted six points and six rebounds, while Schader put up nine points. Schader is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.
Laila Mendoza had an outrageously good game for St. Francis as she went 10 of 15 on her way to 20 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Mendoza a new career-high in points. Center's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for St. Francis, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Center wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 45-32 loss against River Valley on the 28th. As for St. Francis, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-29 defeat against Kennedy on the 28th.
