Softball Recap: Dewey Beats Commerce for Their Third Straight Victory

Dewey waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Commerce Tigers. Considering the Bulldoggers have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kyla Overton spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Londyn Bond was a standout: she fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Landry Herren, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Dewey hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive games.

Dewey's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Commerce, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dewey will take on Nowata at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. The Ironmen have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.25 runs per game on average), something the Bulldoggers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Commerce, they will face off against Lincoln Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
