Football Recap: Gardner-Edgerton Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Gardner-Edgerton dropped down to 3-2 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They were beaten by the Olathe West Owls 49-21. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Trailblazers came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Owls are ranked 33rd).

When it comes to explaining why Gardner-Edgerton lost, don't look at Syre Padilla. Despite the final result, he rushed for 168 yards and one TD while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Padilla's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 141 rushing yards dating back to last season.

As for Olathe West, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1. That 28 point margin sets a new team best for them this season.

Olathe West's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brody Hale, who threw for 316 yards and four touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Josh Foland, who gained 179 total yards and three touchdowns.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Gardner-Edgerton will face off against rival Olathe East on Friday. Meanwhile, Olathe West is set to square off against their familiar foe Mill Valley at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th.
