Basketball Game Preview: Valley View Eagles vs. Paloma Valley Wildcats

Valley View and Paloma Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Valley View Eagles will challenge the Paloma Valley Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Valley View is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.4 points per game this season.

Valley View took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They breezed by Poly to the tune of 64-29. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-9.

Valley View relied on the efforts of Mason Long, who went 7 for 13 en route to 23 points in addition to six boards and six steals, and Jada Booten, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Booten's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was A'Rae Gaines, who posted four points and eight boards.

Valley View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, Paloma Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They were dealt an 86-20 defeat at the hands of Moreno Valley. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 737th, while the Vikings are ranked 14th).

Paloma Valley's loss dropped their record down to 5-19. As for Valley View, their win bumped their record up to 15-12.

Everything went Valley View's way against Paloma Valley in their previous meeting back in January, as Valley View made off with a 59-33 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Valley View since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
