Entering the 2025-26 campaign, seven girls basketball coaches nationwide have 1,000 wins or more.
Lamar Rogers begins his 51st season at
Clarkrange (Tenn.) with a chance to climb into the No. 2 spot among all-time coaching wins leaders in high school girls basketball. Rogers will need 28 wins to catch Joe Lombard of
Canyon (Texas) for the second spot on the list.
Rogers and the Buffaloes are not unfamiliar with 30-win seasons. Clarkrange has had multiple seasons with 30 or more wins, including a 39-0 record in 2008-09 when the program won its eighth state championship under the legendary coach.
Clarkrange is coming off a 17-11 season in 2024-25 and a repeat of last year will put Rogers well within reach of Lombard's spot on the list. Leta Andrews of Texas will take a few more years to catch as she holds the No. 1 all-time mark of 1,416 victories.
Rogers leads the list of the active girls basketball coaches with the most all-time wins. He heads a group that includes 56 coaches with at least 700 wins. Seven have at least 1,000 wins with Rhonda Farney of
Georgetown (Texas) the only other active coach along with Rogers over 1,300 at 1,317.
After leading Star City to four state championships games in Arkansas between 1993 and 2020, Becky Brown-Yarbrough led Pulaski Academy to another title game appearance in her first season with the program last year. She enters the 2025-26 campaign with 944 wins. (PHOTO: Justin Manning)
Durwin Carpenter of
Pillow Academy (Greenwood, Miss.) has a chance to move past Jim Smiddy of
Bradley Central (Cleveland, Tenn.) for the No. 8 spot on the list. Carpenter begins the season with 1,204 victories in his 52 years with the Mustangs. Smiddy, at one time, held the national record for career wins at 1,217 upon his retirement in 1993.
Kyle Jinks of
Fairview (Grant, La.) is the newest member of the 1,000-win club as he has 1,019 after going 37-5 last year with a state championship. He ranks No. 2 in Louisiana behind Dewain Strother of
Florien, who retired in 2023 with 1,235 career wins.
One member of the 1,000-win club who retired at the conclusion of last season is Jan Sojourner. She finished her career at
Jackson Academy (Jackson, Miss.) with 1,051 wins over 50 seasons.
Another Mississippi coach, Gina Skelton of
Wayne County (Waynesboro), looks to be the next coach to reach the 1,000-win milestone. She begins the 2025-26 season with 992 wins.
A returning member to the active wins leader list is Kevin Kiernan. The former
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) coach retired following the 2024 season as the all-time leader in California with 900. After sitting out the 2024-25 season, Kiernan is back this year at
Troy (Fullerton, Calif.).
