Recap: Sweetwater Mustangs vs. Graham Steers
The Sweetwater Mustangs lost against the Graham Steers back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Sweetwater was outmatched by Graham at home and fell 58-14. While losing is never fun, Sweetwater can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 458th, while Graham is ranked 152nd).
When it comes to explaining why Sweetwater lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jadyn Forbes. Despite the final result, he picked up 188 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Caiden Ortiz was another key contributor, throwing for 383 yards and two touchdowns.
Rylan Monsey continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Graham, rushing for 241 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per carry. Monsey was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Another player making a difference was Ty Thompson, who threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns on only 19 passes.
Sweetwater's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 5-3. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.7 points per game. As for Graham, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sweetwater will take on Hirschi at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Graham, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Greenwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
