Softball Game Preview: Monument Valley Mustangs vs. Window Rock Fighting Scouts

The Monument Valley Mustangs will challenge the Window Rock Fighting Scouts at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Monument Valley's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Window Rock has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.

Last Monday, Monument Valley got the win against Ganado by a conclusive 14-4. Considering the Mustangs have won six matchups by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Blu Peterman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Lenaya Chief was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Blessing Betsuie was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Monument Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Window Rock fell victim to St. Johns and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 7-0 to the Redskins. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Fighting Scouts' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Monument Valley is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Window Rock, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.

Monument Valley beat Window Rock 13-10 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Fighting Scouts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
