Baseball Game Preview: First Presbyterian Day Vikings vs. Piedmont Academy Cougars

The First Presbyterian Day Vikings will take on the Piedmont Academy Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. First Presbyterian Day is coming into the game hot, having won their last 12 games.

First Presbyterian Day came out on top against St. Anne-Pacelli on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. First Presbyterian Day took their match against St. Anne-Pacelli 10-5. Ten seems to be a good number for First Presbyterian Day as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Piedmont Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Stratford Academy on Thursday as they made off with a 9-2 win. Considering the Cougars have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Zach Simmons was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Simmons was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Ethan Barman was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Chase Taylor, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

Piedmont Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in four consecutive games.

First Presbyterian Day's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-3. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 6.3 runs. As for Piedmont Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season.
