Basketball Game Preview: La Porte Slicers vs. Mishawaka Marian Knights

The La Porte Slicers will face off against the Mishawaka Marian Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Saturday, La Porte was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 40-35 to Kankakee Valley. The loss put an end to the Slicers' undefeated start to the season.

La Porte's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Keianah Hart, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 13 rebounds, and Keilaeyah Roundtree, who posted eight points and 14 boards. Roundtree is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last five games she's played dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Mishawaka Marian put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game with ease, bagging a 51-16 win over Goshen.

Mishawaka Marian found their leader in sophomore Kariya Byer, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Byer has scored at least a third of the Knights' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elle Boser, who had three points along with seven boards and four steals.

Mishawaka Marian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Mishawaka Marian's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for La Porte, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

La Porte ended up a good deal behind Mishawaka Marian when the teams last played back in November of 2024, losing 59-45. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Byer, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 18 rebounds. Now that the Slicers know the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
