St. Joseph fought the good fight in their overtime match against American Heritage on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 5-4. St. Joseph's loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Maeser Prep Academy came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 goals), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Eagles. Given Maeser Prep Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah soccer rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Draper APA are ranked 97th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jack Stevenson and Denzel Sono-Koree scored both of Maeser Prep Academy's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 20 goals.

Maeser Prep Academy's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those five contests. As for St. Joseph, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-3.

St. Joseph skirted past Maeser Prep Academy 3-2 when the teams last played last Tuesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jayhawks since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
