Soccer Game Preview: Willits vs. Kelseyville

The Willits Wolverines will venture away from home to take on the Kelseyville Knights at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Willits' offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Willits had taken Clear Lake down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Wolverines fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 1-0.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kelseyville). They never let Upper Lake get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Tuesday. Kelseyville's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three matches.

Their offense was hitting Upper Lake from everywhere, as nine different players booted in a goal. Sebastian Cacho led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for three goals all by himself.

Kelseyville has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those six matchups. As for Willits, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10-1.

Willits might still be hurting after the 4-0 defeat they got from Kelseyville when the teams last played back in September. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
