Recap: Porterville Panthers vs. Redwood Rangers
The Porterville Panthers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They walked away with a 45-36 win over Redwood. For Porterville, this counts as revenge for the 51-48 defeat Redwood walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
Porterville found their leader in underclassman Ryleigh Schoonover, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 23 rebounds. Schoonover is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sare Ortiz, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Porterville pushed their record up to 10-6 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Redwood, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-9.
Porterville will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Madera at 4:00 p.m. on January 13th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Madera is ranked 389th, while Porterville is ranked 379th). As for Redwood, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Monache at 6:30 p.m.
