Volleyball Game Preview: Sunnyside Blue Devils vs. Catalina Foothills Falcons

Sunnyside is 0-3 against Catalina Foothills since April of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Sunnyside Blue Devils will challenge the Catalina Foothills Falcons at 6:00 p.m.

Sunnyside is leaving town to face Catalina Foothills after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. Sunnyside fell 3-1 to Boulder Creek on Tuesday.

While Sunnyside ultimately came up short, they really made Boulder Creek work, particularly in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 26-24, 27-29, 25-18.

Sunnyside's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Brayan Rodriguez, who had 22 digs and two aces, and Luciano Fernandez, who had nine digs, two aces, and one block. The dominant performance gave Fernandez a new career-high in digs.

Catalina Foothills not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 26th. They put the hurt on Desert View with a sharp 3-0 victory. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

While Catalina Foothills won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-6, 25-17, 25-23.

Sunnyside suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Catalina Foothills in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Can Sunnyside avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
