Basketball Recap: Meyersdale Comes Up Short

After flying high against Rockwood last Thursday, Meyersdale came back down to earth. The Meyersdale Red Raiders came up short against the Blacklick Valley Vikings on Friday, falling 66-44. The Red Raiders have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Kristin Szymusiak was her usual excellent self, going 9 for 20 on her way to 21 points along with six assists and six steals for Blacklick Valley. The game was Szymusiak's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Hoover, who went 6 of 15 en route to 15 points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Meyersdale's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Blacklick Valley, they pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Meyersdale will venture away from home to face off against Blacklick Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Blacklick Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Meyersdale likes a good challenge. As for Blacklick Valley, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 62-26 victory against Belleville Mennonite on the 25th.
