Basketball Recap: Mira Loma Takes a Loss

Mira Loma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were beaten by the Center Cougars 66-6. The Matadors lost against the Cougars in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 50-38 score last time.

Center found their leader in sophomore Kailee Coggins, who went 8 for 12 en route to 20 points in addition to eight steals and five boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Coggins has scored all season. Reniaya Applin was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

Mira Loma's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Center, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-17 record.

Mira Loma and Center could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Mira Loma will square off against Oakmont at 6:00 p.m. on Friday down 572 places (1135 vs. 563). Meanwhile, Center (ranked 1027th) will meet Lincoln (ranked 340th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
