Football Recap: Goddard Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Goddard can now relate to. They took a 28-14 bruising from the Lovington Wildcats on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 44-26 back in September.

Jayden Gutierrez produced another solid performance rushing for 113 yards and one score on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 66 yards and a pair of TDs on only five passes for Lovington. Gutierrez's passing game has become a key predictor of the Wildcats' success: the team is 5-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise.

Goddard has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season. As for Lovington, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-4.

Goddard does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lovington, they will square off against Artesia at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
