Baseball Recap: Pike County Comes Up Short

Pike County extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-4. They lost 9-3 to the Locust Grove Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pirates of the 12-9 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2022.

As for Locust Grove, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average this season.

For Locust Grove's part, Landen Lunsford made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lunsford was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those stolen bases were his first of the season.

In other batting news, Locust Grove got a massive performance out of Jamir Johnson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Johnson also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Ryland Meredith was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Pike County will host East Coweta at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Locust Grove, they will venture away from home to face off against Brunswick at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
