Basketball Recap: Overton's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Overton had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes by a score of 58-47. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 66-27 win the Coyotes walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2024.

Gracen Hughes produced another solid effort shooting 47% from the field en route to 22 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Those 22 points gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Halynn Hughes, who went 6-for-15 on her way to 16 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Overton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Anselmo-Merna only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.

Defeat or not, Anselmo-Merna got some senior leadership from Rhianen Myers and Shayleigh Coleman. Myers shot 58% from the field to rack up 18 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Coleman went 7-for-10 en route to 16 points and six boards. Thanks to that strong game, Myers now owns an excellent 43.8% three-point shooting accuracy.

Overton's record is now 5-1. As for Anselmo-Merna, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Overton and Pleasanton will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Anselmo-Merna, they will head out to take on Mullen at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
