Basketball Recap: Central Cambria Red Devils vs. River Valley Panthers

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Central Cambria had no problem doing just that on Friday. They slipped by the River Valley Panthers 54-53. For the Red Devils, this counts as revenge for the 54-38 win the Panthers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

River Valley's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Persichetti, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 19 points and three steals. Persichetti has been hot for a while, having posted 16 or more points the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Cole, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards.

Central Cambria has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.2 points over those games. With the loss, River Valley broke their 26-game winning streak and moved their record to 26-1.

Coming up, Central Cambria will take on Keystone Oaks at 7:00 p.m. on March 7th. River Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
