Football Game Preview: Oxford Wildcats vs. Udall Eagles

The Oxford Wildcats will challenge the Udall Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Oxford has five straight victories, Udall has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Oxford beats Udall with 46 points on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Wildcats took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 46-6 win over Kiowa County. Fans of the Wildcats have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

It was another big night for Logan Gaither, who rushed for 230 yards and three scores while picking up 9.2 yards per carry, and also threw for 32 yards and one touchdown. Gaither is crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season. Wyatt Gaither got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Oxford was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 285 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 241 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Oxford didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Xzavier McClamy, Gaither, and Wyatt picked up one apiece. Wyatt got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Udall's offense. They were dealt a 56-0 defeat at the hands of South Central on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Timberwolves are ranked second).

Udall's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Oxford, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

Everything came up roses for Oxford against Udall in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 54-0 win. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
