Football Game Preview: Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars vs. West Mesa Mustangs

The Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars will face off against the West Mesa Mustangs at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Atrisco Heritage Academy came up short against Sandia on Friday, falling 37-13. The Jaguars haven't had much luck with the Matadors recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Gianluca Ramirez, who threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 38 yards. Another receiver making a difference was Deon Session, who picked up 70 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Even if they lost, Atrisco Heritage Academy's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Wa'Qari Walker was especially locked on to Sandia's QB and sacked him twice. Gabriel Castillo was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making seven total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for West Mesa's offense. They took a blow against La Cueva on Thursday, falling 49-0. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico football rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Bears are ranked fifth).

Atrisco Heritage Academy will have to contain Victor Aguilar Jr. as he made an impact in West Mesa's last game. He rushed for 106 yards on only 14 carries.

West Mesa's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-4.
