Basketball Recap: Polytechnic Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Maggie Scholze and Harper Doyle

Polytechnic has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 54-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chaparral Pumas on Friday.

Polytechnic's loss came despite strong showings from Harper Doyle and Maggie Scholze. Doyle went 10 of 15 on her way to 23 points and five rebounds, while Scholze went 7 of 11 on her way to 15 points along with six boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Tan, who posted five points.

Even though they lost, Polytechnic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 13 consecutive matchups.

Chaparral found their leader in sophomore Zetta Faasua, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Faasua has scored at least a third of Chaparral's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Costello, who had 12 points and four steals.

Polytechnic's defeat dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Chaparral, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season.

Polytechnic didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 35-34 loss against Holy Martyrs Armenian on the 28th. As for Chaparral, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 43-39 defeat against Trabuco Hills on the 28th.
