Baseball Recap: Leyden Gets the Win

While Leyden's win against Proviso East wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles never let the Pirates get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory on Monday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

The result came thanks to Elias Carrillo's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up 13 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Leyden is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Leyden saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joseph O'Neill, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Leyden's victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Proviso East, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10.

Leyden will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Pirates: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
