Baseball Recap: Bonny Eagle Comes Up Short

Bonny Eagle extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 9-7-1. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Thornton Academy Trojans. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Scots have suffered against the Trojans since May 11, 2019.

Bonny Eagle saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Saucier, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Thornton Academy, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

On Thornton Academy's side, Cameron Kirby looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Kirby has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Noah Fullerton, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Bonny Eagle is set to face off against their familiar foe Noble at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Thornton Academy will challenge rival Gorham at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trojans 2.8, the Rams 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
