Softball Game Preview: North Callaway Thunderbirds vs. Valley Park Hawks

The North Callaway Thunderbirds will face off against the Valley Park Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Valley Park took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on North Callaway, who comes in off a win.

North Callaway will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Bowling Green, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Thunderbirds came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bobcats on Thursday, sneaking past 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Thunderbirds.

Megan Schmidt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, North Callaway's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kymorie Myers, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Valley Park came up short against St. Charles West on Tuesday, falling 18-4. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Alivia Robison was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Chitwood, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

North Callaway's victory bumped their record up to 20-10. As for Valley Park, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.

Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. North Callaway hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. However, it's not like Valley Park struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
