Softball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Ashland-Greenwood's Winning Streak

Ashland-Greenwood dropped down to 14-10 on Saturday, ending the team's five-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Beatrice Orangemen, falling 11-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Bluejays were not able to get on the board.

As for Beatrice, they are on a roll lately: they've won 19 of their last 20 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games.

For Beatrice's part, Karrigan Henrichs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Henrichs has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 14 contests.

In other batting news, Brooke Gleason was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last four games she's played. Tatum Tempelmeyer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Coming up, Ashland-Greenwood will challenge Bishop Neumann at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bluejays 3.3, the Cavaliers 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Beatrice, they will head out to take on Bennington on Tuesday.
