Softball Recap: Guardian Angels Central Catholic Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

Guardian Angels Central Catholic's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They never let the Ponca Indians get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The Bluejays might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.

The result came thanks to Abi Toline's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Guardian Angels Central Catholic let Josie Ritter and Amiah Dirkschneider run wild. Ritter went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Dirkschneider went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Those three runs gave Ritter a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Cohee, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Guardian Angels Central Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ponca, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

Looking ahead, Guardian Angels Central Catholic will take on Pierce at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ponca, they will face off against Lincoln High at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Links have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.86 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
