Football Recap: West Marion Extends Winning Streak to Four

West Marion had won three straight games and Braxton Albritton did his part to make it four on Friday. The Trojans walked away with a 33-21 victory over the Presbyterian Christian Bobcats for which the team can thank Albritton, who threw for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 40 yards and one score. His passing game has become a key predictor of West Marion's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise.

Presbyterian Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reed Bridges, who picked up 189 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Smith Stringer was another key signal caller, throwing for 245 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.7 yards per attempt.

West Marion's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Presbyterian Christian, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-3 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. West Marion will challenge Pass Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates' defense has only allowed 14.8 points per game this season, so the Trojans' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Presbyterian Christian, they will take on St. Stanislaus at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bobcats will be up against the Rock-a-Chaws' rather soft defense (which has allowed 37.13 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
