Luella won the last time they faced Riverdale and things went their way on Thursday too. The Lions blew past the Raiders 17-1. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by 16 runs or more this season.
Zaena Harris made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two triples, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ayleen Montoya, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Reliford, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and two runs.
Luella always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverdale only posted an OBP of .308.
The victory made it two in a row for Luella and bumps their season record up to 9-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Riverdale, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.
