Baseball Recap: Millburn Finds Playoff Glory Versus Somerville

With a playoff win on the line, Millburn rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Somerville Pioneers by a score of 4-1. The win was nothing new for the Millers as they're now sitting on three straight.

Leo Dalton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Millburn is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 10-13 otherwise.

At the plate, Millburn's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Eli Suna, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Sawyer Stein also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Millburn's win bumped their record up to 13-14. As for Somerville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 16 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.

Millburn will challenge North Hunterdon on Friday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Millers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Somerville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
