If Capistrano Valley wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Laguna Beach, they should've done a better job of containing Fiona McCormick. The Breakers snuck past the Cougars with a 45-39 victory on Saturday for which the team can thank McCormick, who posted 25 points. She is becoming a predictor of Laguna Beach's success: when she posts at least 20 points the team is 4-1 (and 3-4 when she doesn't).

Despite the defeat, Capistrano Valley had strong showings from Paisley Petrosian, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Kaitlyn Yama, who had 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabelle Browne, who put up five points and six boards.

Laguna Beach is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Capistrano Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Laguna Beach wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 42-39 win against Savanna on the 15th. Capistrano Valley will take on Bolsa Grande in a holiday battle at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Matadors' defense has only allowed 25.5 points per game this season, so the Cougars' offense will have their work cut out for them.
